The Minister That Has Made a “Discovery” Responds to Naira Zohrabyan

June 20,2012 21:25

Today www.aravot.am inquired of  Vache Gabrielyan, the Minister of  Finance, what he thought about Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) MP Naira Zohrabyan’s criticism that he had made a “discovery,” he said, “What do you think I should think of it? I explained what I had said. When there was a conversation, the context was the following that it wasn’t mentioned where the investments would be made, where exactly the jobs would be created. And I said that it would be a multivolume book, I said that it would be like a Soviet plan. Cabinets as a rule, when they submit it in countries with such a structure and government as ours, don’t submit such a document and our program was in line with programs of those countries in terms of its format.”

We asked to clarify whether he claimed that the Cabinet’s program should not mention mechanisms, he replied, “I claim that there are mechanisms, it is described at my level, when we say that it is an industrial policy directed to export and we already have an agreement on export-directed industrial policy with a certain branch – cognac producers – and a platform was established where there are representatives of both state and private organizations, then the mechanism – what we are going to do – is obvious already. If we have to mention index

after index that here should be done this and there should be done that, I must bring all the legislative packages of 5-year activities now – it, in my opinion, is neither possible, nor realistic, nor desirable.”

In response to a question when they were going to double the minimum wage, the minister said that within the next five years, gradually.
