June 22,2012 17:38

According to our sources at the police, yesterday Vladimir Gasparyan, the Chief of Police of the Republic of Armenia, dismissed Colonel Karush Tovmasyan, the head of the Shirak regional unit of the main investigation department, Police of the Republic of Armenia.

Let us mention that he had been holding that office for almost 30 years, he is at the age of retirement, he was even once pensioned off, but he was spared through the mediation of Ashot Giziryan, the governor of Shirak, letting him to work for some time more. The real reason for dismissing the head of the unit was the shots heard recently, in which the husband of Karush Tovmasyan’s daughter also participated.

As we have informed, according to the circulating news, Garnik Grigoryan, the son-in-law of this official, engaged in a showdown Andranik Karapetyan, a member of Gyumri Town Council who is the son-in-law of Artashes Sargsyan, a former head of the urban development department at the regional administration of Shirak, during which shots were fired. The reason was that Andranik Karapetyan had employed the cook, who had previously worked at Garnik Grigoryan’s shawarma house on Tartu Street, at the shawarma house in the Pegas market of his father-in-law. Garnik Grigoryan was angry with the fact that the cook had learned the recipe for his money, but was going to use it for developing others’ business from then on.

One of the pretexts of dismissing Karush Tovmasyan was also the violation of the police code of ethics and the conduct discreditable for the police officer. Our newspaper inquired of this official whether the news that his son-in-law was one of the participants in the incident. In response to our question, the head of the unit went ballistic, pouring his anger out on the newspaper and hurling insults. After the conflict with us, Vladimir Gasparyan launched an internal investigation, and then pensioned him off.

According to our information, the Chief of Police of the Republic of Armenia gave one weak to Gyumri Chief of Police Shashikyan and Deputy Chief of Police of Shirak region Vahram Yengoyan, in order that they revealed the circumstances of the incident with shots being fired. Otherwise, Vladimir Gasparyan threatened to dismiss these two officials too.

Let us mention that Vahram Yengoyan is the son of Karush Tovmasyan’s father-in-law and holds the office of the rapid response deputy of the regional police of Shirak and his function is to reveal the crimes.

By the way, according to some news, the shots were fired near the village of Parni, which is basically within the borders of the region of Lori and the law-enforcers of Lori should have dealt with that issue.
