Hmayak Hovhannisyan, the president of the Union of Political Scientists, made a few interesting statements during a conversation with www.aravot.am today. “I am telling you straightforwardly that the joint staff was sacrificed for achieving some goals through some bargaining with the government. I.e. to get 7 offices, the office of Prime Minister, which the PAP expected to get, which didn’t happen, and didn’t happen not thanks to the skillfulness of the ANC that the Congress was able to drive a wedge, but just because Serzh Sargsyan didn’t give the PAP the office of the Prime Minister. Now the PAP may defect in the same manner at the threshold of the presidential election expecting once again that it may get the office of the Prime Minister after the presidential election. Doesn’t Levon Ter-Petrossian the Wiseman think about it?” Mr. Hovhannisyan said. He doesn’t think that there is Levon Ter-Petrossian’s contribution to the current relationship between the PAP and the RPA and the withdrawal of the PAP from the coalition, “Let me tell you the simple truth. Levon Ter-Petrossian hasn’t succeeded in driving a wedge between the PAP and the RPA. To begin with, there is no wedge, it doesn’t exist, because one should take into account that there have been precedents in our country when a political party left the coalition and became an opposition temporarily, then returned to the coalition and the government. For example, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), which basically cooperated with the government after the events of March 1, explaining that it had to contribute to overcoming the outcome of the events of March 1, retained certain leverage both in the government and in the relationship with the government for a long time. The PAP will do the same thing.”
The next statement made by Hmayak Hovhannisyan was the following, “Let me reveal a secret to you. 3 presidents are considered as possible participants in the 2013 presidential election. Those 3 have aspirations to a certain extent. Serzh Sargsyan, in particular, because his tenure is coming to an end and he has the possibility to be reelected, Ter-Petrossian, because he surely wouldn’t like his swansong to be those 7 notorious seats and Robert Kocharyan, because he realizes that this is his last chance to return to the active public policy, otherwise, there will be an absolutely different situation and circumstances in 2018. However, Gagik Tsarukyan seems to thimblerig these three and doesn’t say where the pea is. Nonetheless, it should be clear for everyone that 2 of those 3 will be deceived, deceived by Gagik Tsarukyan. I am sure that one of those two will be Levon Ter-Petrossian, as for who will be the second – Serzh Sargsyan or Robert Kocharyan – I don’t know. However, I am telling you for sure that Levon Ter-Petrossian will be one of them – he has booked the place of one of
those two. I can predict it and am responsible for that political prediction of mine. I cannot say for sure who will be the second one, however.”
