Oskanian’s case is talked about much these days, particularly, different political camps give different explanations to the fact. For example, some of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) representatives think that Russia’s factor is big in Oskanian’s case, in order to, so to say, revise the orientation of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP). In regard to this, www.aravot.am got comments of Armen Martirosyan, the deputy chairman of the executive committee of the Heritage Party parliamentary group. He stated, “I think that in any case the representatives of the political stage have a certain orientation, but they confine our country’s cooperation not only to the boundaries of the Russian Federation, but also the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC). For example, the Heritage Party thinks that the
Republic of Armenia should cooperate with the European Union. I don’t think that the PAP has changed its external orientation. At the end of the day, no matter how much importance we attach to individuals, the political force sticks to its previous position.”
Going into detail, Mr. Martirosyan stated, “Vartan Oskanian was one of Robert Kocharyan’s best, most trusted men, if Kocharyan is in the Russian or Eurasian camp, how can Oskanian be in the Western camp? The party is in that camp, one of the figures linked to the party too, how can Oskanian be engaged in separate activities?”

We inquired what was behind Oskanian’s case, nonetheless. A. Martirosyan noted, “In any case, I see a certain political trace from the time perspective. It is absolutely clear for me that there are problems, the National Security Service (NSS) has raised certain questions and those, I think, will be answered by Vartan Oskanian. It is related to the presidential election, more specifically, a warning to disobedient people. It is not clear for me whether Oskanian will appear behind the bars or not, I don’t think so.”
