Today a meeting of those intellectuals of Gyumri, who, not tolerating the idleness of the current council of Gyumri, are going to nominate a team of candidates for the council during the upcoming local elections, took place in the Style gallery of the town. They were comprised of famous social anthropologists, economists, architects, lawyers, representatives of active NGOs. During the 7th session of the New Council civic initiative, the draft of the
pre-election program was discussed and everyone put forward their proposals for solving a certain issue of Gyumri.
Talking about healthcare problems, Levon Barseghyan, the chairman of the Asparez club, said, “The despicable crematorium of the town besmirches the dignity of this town’s people the most. It has been in a bad condition for 20 years, it is about $120-130 thousand, the necessary infrastructure should be created, the single window principle should be in effect, in order that the relatives don’t deal with the chopper, the cremator. This issue should be solved at the expense of the state, otherwise, one can spend money equal to 10% of the stone carpet of Gyumri on building it.” And one can read under the heading The Reconstruction, Construction of the Crematorium in the package of proposals, “To urgently negotiate and demand the construction of the crematorium in Gyumri at the expense of the state. The need is more than grounded, our fellow citizens have been provided services under inhuman and disgusting conditions for more than two decades already. This offends our dignity. In case of not having a new crematorium at the expense of the state urgently, to build a temporary crematorium with proper infrastructure and with premises of 120m² at most through the community, well-doers and possible donors within a year. The cost is around 40 million AMD. To create proper conditions, a waiting hall, for the relatives of the deceased to wait.” It is proposed also to have 4 orderly at the expense of the community budget who will take the deceased to the crematorium in pairs shifting each other, then will bring them home making minimum troubles for the relatives of the deceased.
