Hail Has Destroyed 144 Roofs – There Is No Support From the Cabinet Yet

July 06,2012 12:46

We have already informed that hailstones bigger than an egg, which fell on the evening of June 8, caused serious damage on the village of Jujevan, 8km away from the town of Noyemberyan. The hail has destroyed the slate roofs of houses, the tin roofs and windows of cars, damaged the sown areas and orchards of the village. The hail was so intense that the domestic animals were routed from the yards. The damage inflicted by the disaster has been calculated by the committees of the community and the regional administration of Tavush. Zhora Chilingaryan, the headman of Jujevan, informed that the hail had destroyed slates of 144 roofs in the village, 10 400 slates had been damaged in total, 80% of 20 700m² roofs had been destroyed. The village headman said that the villagers had found a temporary means for protecting themselves from the recent rains – they cover the damaged sectors of slate roofs with pieces of slate, tin plates and tarpaulin. According to him, the damage inflicted by the

hail on the auxiliary buildings, pens and garages has not been calculated. 6.5ha area sown with various crops has been damaged because of the hail. “We haven’t calculated the damage inflicted on the crops and gardens either. We don’t demand compensation for damage, the important thing is the problem of roofs,” Zhora Chilingaryan said.

The calculations of damage inflicted by the hail have been sent to the Cabinet and it is not clear yet when the Cabinet will help the residents of Jujevan who have suffered from the hail.
