Larisa Alaverdyan, a member of the initiative group of the Vahe Avetyan Social Movement, making parallels between the incidents of Poghos Poghosyan who had died as a result of being violently beaten by the former President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan’s chief of security, Cuckoo, and Vahe Avetyan who had died as a result of being violently beaten also by security officers of Harsnakar Restaurant owned by Ruben

Hayrapetyan, stated that the society had not found the strength, it hadn’t managed to self-organize and struggle against the criminal-oligarchic system at the time. www.aravot.am inquired of another member of the initiative, Nvard Manasyan, whether it was possible that this would turn into the beginning of forming a civil society in Armenia, which would lead our country along the road of law, since not only had the society protested against what had happened to Vahe Avetyan and his friends, but it also continued its struggle demanding justice. Our interlocutor assured that the society would be consistent and would struggle to establish the rule of law in Armenia.

We also inquired of Ms. Manasyan whether she thought the calls for confiscating Ruben Hayrapetyan’s property and using capital punishment against him were fair. In that case, what the perspective of establishing the rule of law in Armenia was, whether those calls weren’t similar to oligarchs’ behavior. Ms. Manasyan replied, “Citizens might have said that in anger, but we have stated that we will respond to force with the law. Our state wasn’t established, in order that we take revenge all the time, regulate relations by Lynch law, as various oligarchs have tried to do.”
