Tigran Urikhanyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) parliamentary group, who shot at Mikayel Danielyan, the head of the Helsinki Association human rights organization, with a gas pistol in 2008, also participated in the signature collecting of 4 National Assembly groups to convene an extraordinary session on depriving Ruben Hayrapetyan of a seat. “That person behaved in the same manner at the time as Ruben Hayrapetyan’s bodyguards and he got away with that. Now he plays the role of the ‘promoter of justice,’” Mikayel Danielyan said in an interview given to www.epress.am.
Tigran Urikhanyan, the press secretary of the PAP, said, talking about what Danielyan had said during a conversation with www.aravot.am, that a wrong comparison was made and
explained that his firing had been in self-defense, “If a man suffers from stupidity or has some tasks of getting grants, I don’t want to talk about it.”

Mr. Urikhanyan reminded that a criminal case was opened in regard to this incident and M. Danielyan lost trials in a few courts, “Three guys – he and his two friends – under higher-than-medium influence of alcohol followed me and my fellow party member suffering from epilepsy for 30 years for two crossroads, attacked us and acted like hooligans, as a result of which I shot with a legal pistol without bullets in self-defense.”
According to Mr. Urikhanyan, M. Danielyan and his friends pursued them, because they had called them to order with a car horn for misbehaving in the street.
