“There Are Aspects of Immorality, They Are Playing a Game,” Yerjanik Abgaryan Says About Vano Siradeghyan’s Return

July 26,2012 14:45

Today www.aravot.am inquired of Yerjanik Abgaryan, a Pan-Armenian National Movement (PANM) executive committee member, what he thought of the signature collecting for Vano Siradeghyan’s return and whether he wanted Vano Siradeghyan’s return or not, he said, “There are aspects of immorality there, people who raise that issue now, raise it in a whole different context. It is right that naturally, every one of us wants Vano Siradeghyan to return. There is no denying. However, it is done by the forces that want to create an

impression of restructuring the political stage, bringing new figures, restructuring, establishing the so-called third force. They are playing that game. The participants in that game are the main people who use Vano Siradeghyan’s personality. I don’t rule out that it is dictated by them, the government. There is a need for Vano Siradeghyan’s return, it is natural, but not in that context, in order that it is used for some unknown reasons. I don’t trust people who make such proposals, I don’t think that they honestly want Vano Siradeghyan, as a man, a citizen, to return to Armenia, because no serious charges were brought against him, he was not charged based on facts, evidence. It was a political event, in order that the incoming forces of 1998 justified their activities; when they staged a coup d’état, they started committing crimes at every turn – events of October 27, ‘Estate for the Debt,’ a sellout of the country, etc.”

In response to our question whether he thought that this government was bringing Vano Siradeghyan to confront the Congress, Mr. Abgaryan said, “He is not brought. They are just playing a game before the election. They use not Vano Siradeghyan, but that issue to form a different attitude toward the Congress within the society.”
