“Today’s Armenian National Congress (ANC) Is Very Different From the Original ANC and This Is the Sad Reality”

August 01,2012 15:19

“First of all, I congratulate the Armenian National Congress on its birthday, I wish it cold-bloodiness, political decency and impartiality,” Margarit Yesayan, a Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP and the deputy chairman of the human rights protection and public affairs commission, said in response to a question of www.aravot.am what the existence of the ANC for the past four years had given to the Armenian political stage in both positive and negative senses.

In the MP’s opinion, “The birth of every healthy political force is good news and can be effective for the country’s political stage and in countries like ours, where the palette of the political stage was quite predictable and under control, the birth of the ANC was certainly a positive thing. Many healthy forces, figures with political experience, people who have travelled a political road became members of it. It is a different issue that I personally don’t accept and assess all of them as politicians.

“The ANC has made the political life more active in recent years; it added new colors to it. Unfortunately, we can already assert today that the Congress also had the drawbacks, with which almost all forces are contaminated and of which this force has been continuously accusing others. The ANC has made many mistakes; it has made inadequate moves, along with healthy ones.

“For instance, the dialogue between the ANC and the government was important for me and I think it remained incomplete only because of the ambitions and venom of some ANC members and we, unfortunately, didn’t have the progress that would have changed much in our country. Today sad processes take place in the ANC and this is also natural – human ambitions impede the ANC at the moment. In a sense, there was a struggle for power, ‘principled’ debates on getting a slice of the pie in the ANC too and all that testified once again to the fact that the ANC was not quite an ideological and purposeful force; all that disappeared, when it came to the personal interest.

“I am so sorry for those young activists who devoted themselves to the ANC completely, but many of them are disappointed today.

“The reverence the ANC shows for the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) is just incomprehensible for many oppositionists today. Today’s ANC is very different from the original ANC and this is the sad reality.”
