On July 31, a 14-year-old girl wanted to jump off an above-ground pedestrian bridge in the Dzork neighborhood of Kapan. The officers of the Kapan police station who were called arrived at the scene and after long negotiations with the child, were able, along with the experts of the Kapan Children’s Center and the department of protecting the rights of
children, women and family members of the regional administration of Syunik, to get the child off the bridge and to prevent the suicide.
Now the 14-year-old girl is under the supervision of the Kapan Children’s Rehabilitation Center and it is the second day a psychologist has been working with her.
According to Maya Mirzoyan, the director of the center, the girl has overcome the shock, has told the psychologist about the motives for the move she made and now her condition is assessed as satisfactory, but the psychologist continues working with her.

Besides the child, work with her parents will also be done in the center. “The child is the focus of our attention and everything will be done to bring her back to normal life. Fortunately, we have been able to prevent the suicide this time thanks to the officers of the Kapan police station and have saved the life of one minor. Such incidents have ended in death so far,” Naira Avetisyan, the head of the department protecting the rights of children, women and family members of the regional administration of Syunik, stated.
The 14-year-old girl has a brother who is serving in the army, her sister is married and she lives with her parents. According to the neighbors’ information, personal issues underlay the girl’s suicide attempt. The parents forbad her to talk with a boy, which instigated her to make that move.
