Tomorrow, there will be solidarity demonstrations in Belarus in support of human rights advocates who are in jail. And in Yerevan, it started today in front of the Belarusian Embassy. It was initiated by the Helsinki Association human rights organization. 5 members of the organization held a demonstration with calls for solidarity and banners in support of Ales Bialiatski, the head of Viasna Human Rights Center and the vice president of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH).
According to human rights advocate Mikayel Danielyan, the head of the organization, being in the center of Europe, in Belarus capital punishment is in force and the European Convention on Human Rights is not in force, “People are arrested there for flash mobs and demonstrations.” The human rights advocate thinks that Belarus learns many things from Armenia in terms of human rights protection, “The Armenian government is, I wouldn’t say smarter, but more agile.”
