The Heritage Party Has Taken an “Ordinary” Attitude Toward the Local Elections

August 03,2012 17:30

Armen Martirosyan, the Heritage Party executive committee deputy chairman, said to www.hayeli.am that the issue of announcing a candidate for the Gyumri mayoral election would be discussed at the executive committee meeting on August 4, “And we will decide whether we will participate in the Gyumri mayoral election or not.”

However, today, in an interview given to First Informational, Vahagn Hovhannisyan, the head of the Gyumri district office of the Heritage Party, hinted again at the possibility of his being announced as a candidate for the mayor of Gyumri. During a conversation with www.aravot.am on this issue, Armen Martirosyan, the Heritage Party executive committee deputy chairman, said that the party executive committee meeting was postponed, but, “If our party members wish to participate in this or that election, we will necessarily discuss it speedily and the executive committee will make a decision.”

He said regarding Gyumri that the Gyumri office had not applied for participating in the local election yet and in his interview, Vahagn Hovhannisyan talked about not the final decision, but a “possible wish.” Martirosyan assured, “If he expresses the final wish, we will naturally support our party friend, but there is no party decision on announcing a candidate for the mayor of Gyumri.”

We inquired why the Heritage Party had decided to take a passive attitude toward the local elections. Martirosyan explained, “It is not a passive attitude. It is an ordinary attitude. If there is a wish, we will necessarily support. If not, we cannot force people.”
