“No One Has Heard My Comment and They Talk Using Their Fantasy,” Gagik Beglaryan Says

August 24,2012 15:35

“I haven’t made any comment regarding that famous incident so far. I can say that the rest that is written is just delusions. When they hear a comment out of my mouth, then they can claim. No one has heard my comment and they talk using their fantasy,” yesterday, after the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) council meeting, Gagik Beglaryan, the Minister of Transport and Communication, said during a conversation with Aravot, when we asked him to answer a few questions about the famous incident concerning the worker of the president’s protocol service. Let us remind that Gagik Beglaryan, the then mayor of Yerevan, beat up Aram Kandayan, a worker of the president’s protocol service, and after a big fuss, he handed in his resignation. Gagik Beglaryan was compared with Suren Khachatryan, the governor of Syunik, after that incident and it was pointed out that both of them beat people up, but were encouraged with high offices, since they provided certain services to the RPA. We inquired what he thought about much criticism of him in that regard. Mr. Beglaryan assured that the criticism of him in that regard was not that much, “I haven’t heard, read much criticism, what criticism are you talking about, have I been criticized?”

In response to our question whether the RPA highly valued his services, in his opinion, how he felt, whether he was valued sufficiently or not, he said, “The Republican leaders have just left, ask them. I value things that are absolutely different. In our country, that system of values means something different. Whether I was valued or not – I never see it that way. An office is appreciation for you, isn’t it? It is a service for me – it is a service for the country and a hard one too.”

We also inquired of Mr. Beglaryan where he spent his summer holiday this year. The Minister replied, “I haven’t gone anywhere this year, I haven’t gone on vacation.”

In response to our observation that every year the press talked about on what island and in what luxurious conditions he spent his holiday and there had been no news about it this year, he said, “I have a dream that a day will come when the press will publish only what is true. I haven’t been on vacation, since I have been working and I don’t intend to go on vacation yet.”
