Today www.aravot.am inquired of Lyudmila Sargsyan, an ANC MP, why the ANC was passive concerning the local elections, whether there were no human resources or finances didn’t suffice. She replied, “I don’t think the ANC is passive. We have just done as much as it was necessary. There are different reasons, which I don’t want to talk about. Anyway, I think the ANC has done all that it deemed right. The ANC will participate at the level of both community leaders and council members. You know quite well in what country we live, where struggle for mayoral elections is not realistic these days. We will have what we had during the parliamentary election. A slightly different logic applies to presidential elections. We have to do everything to compete in the presidential election.” We asked to clarify whether if they participated in the local elections, it would turn out that they had spent their resources inefficiently, she replied, “No, we just attach importance to presidential elections, because there is a much fiercer struggle in local elections than in parliamentary elections. The factor of local underworld leaders and money is much more decisive here.”
Today Hayk Babukhanyan, the leader of the Constitutional Right Union (CRU) and a member of the Republican Party of Armenia parliamentary group, said regarding the passiveness of the ANC in the local elections, “The Congress has no social basis, it has no support in the regions and it is natural that it has to explain its inability like a gossipy woman. The opposition represented by the ANC is not interested in regional problems. The only objective of the ANC is to come to power using every method and to do what they did with power at the time.” According to Lyudmila Sargsyan’s comment, “I don’t attach any importance to his opinion, whatsoever, I don’t attach importance to his newspaper, I don’t attach importance to him as an MP. I will not talk about any of his ideas.”
