“You will not hear any word regarding any Republican candidate from us. The Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) cannot endorse the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA),” these words of Tigran Urikhanyan, the press secretary of the PAP, said during a press conference the other day have caused different comments.
Presently, in response to Urikhanyan, members of the RPA provide different mass media with clarification and inform that they will not endorse the PAP candidates. Galust Sahakyan, the deputy leader of the RPA, said to www.1in.am that they considered Samvel Balasanyan not as a PAP candidate, but as a serious and worthy candidate for Gyumri. In that regard, www.aravot.am asked Tigran Urikhanyan to clarify whether there had been a political decision not to endorse the RPA candidates in the local elections. He replied, “Let us understand the situation. Everyone has been making statements, making up some things and commenting on them in the past 3 days. Journalists must be specific. They asked a question during an interview and an answer to that question was given, what statement are you talking about? Moreover, no one said anything about candidates, they asked whether it was possible that we would endorse the RPA and I answered.”
As for Galust Sahakyan’s comment, according to Tigran Urikhanyan’s observation, “Galust Sahakyan said the right thing, I said the same thing. We have put one thing down in black and white regarding the local elections and there is one simple, transparent truth in our approach – we will be guided by the factor of individuals in the local elections, because they are not political elections and we need people, individuals who will ensure efficient solutions to various problems.”

We asked to clarify whether it was possible that being guided by that principle, the PAP would endorse someone – a member of the RPA, for instance – if they thought he was a worthy person for the given community. Tigran Urikhanyan replied, “Please, proclaim from the housetops that a journalist has asked that question and there is a clear answer to that question, I don’t wish to talk about that anymore. I have already answered.”
