“A country that thinks of itself as a European country couldn’t do such a thing, knowing quite well that Ramil Safarov would be released in Azerbaijan,” Hayk Mukuchyan, a colonel and a special first-class adviser on civil service, who was with Gurgen Margaryan axed by Ramil Safarov in February 2004 and was miraculously snatched from the jaws of the murderer explained this way the attitude of the Hungarian government. The colonel thinks that impunity is encouraged by that, which Azerbaijan used acquitting the murderer.
Hayk Mukuchyan was declared a victim by the Hungarian court. During a conversation with www.aravot.am, he informed that as a victim, he considered all possibilities to defend his legitimate interests. Now, he is actively engaged in discussions with his lawyers to make up his mind in what court and how he can file a petition, what possibilities there are. In response to a question of www.aravot.am whether the colonel didn’t think that the Armenian government was to blame for all this, since speculations about Safarov’s extradition had been there for a long time and the Armenian side basically hadn’t done anything to prevent it, Mukuchyan said, “Let me not comment on that question.”
Hayk Mukuchyan thinks that the lives of all those Armenians who will go abroad to participate in certain courses are under threat, since one will not have any guarantees anymore that even if he is a victim of some crime, he can struggle for his rights to the finish, “This sets a dangerous precedent.”
