Checks Next to the Former Mayor’s Name?

September 11,2012 14:47

The most passive and saddest election in the history of Gyumri took place on Sunday – the majority of people didn’t deem necessary to leave homes and although another part of them, 3359 people, reached polling stations in order not to lose their votes, but expressed their protest by either crossing everyone or handing the ballot without voting for anyone, as well as writing vile curses. And Vardan Ghukasyan’s supporters, neither more nor less, added the name of the 13-year ruler and put a check mark next to it. This way of protest was commonly used at almost all polling stations. For example, Araksya Kirakosyan, the head of the election commission at no. 34/02 polling station situated in Gyumri Pedagogical Institute, informed during a conversation with us that in 6-7 ballots out of 40 spoiled ballots, Vardan Ghukasyan’s name had been added. The same thing was recorded at no. 34/33 polling station situated in Progress University and at 34/57 polling station situated in George Byron School No. 20. The residents of Gyumri didn’t express their deep love for Ghukasyan, but just showed that they didn’t like the election staged and dictated in accordance with the presidential scenario at all.
