New Details on the Suicide of the Byurakan Village Headman’s Son Committed in the Army

September 11,2012 15:20

As we have informed, on the day of local elections, early in the morning, Arman, the youngest son of Seyran Sargsyan, the headman of the village of Byurakan (former Gyulubulagh), committed a suicide. Today people present at the youth’s funeral communicated to www.aravot.am that the 22-year-old youth had served in the Kanaker military base in Yerevan, after graduating from the institute, he had been called up last year and had served for 1 year and 4 months. The incident took place in the base itself on the morning of September 9, at 2:15 a.m., the youth was found sitting on a stone with a gun in his hand, which was pointed to his throat. There are suspicions that he didn’t commit a suicide, but was murdered. His father told that on that very day, at midnight, at around 1:30 a.m., he had received a call on his phone from an unknown number and no one had talked; this aroused doubts in the father’s mind. Seyran Sargsyan without warning his family got in a car and rushed to Yerevan, to his serviceman son.

He received a call from his son on the way too, but the village headman didn’t hear it and didn’t pick up. Coming to the base, he found his son dead.

The preliminary investigation will show whether this is another case of murderer or suicide in the army. Let us note that the father who lost his son was elected the village headman on the same day, he didn’t have a rival – the chief of staff of the village administration had formally announced his candidacy to compete with him and had withdrawn his candidacy before the election.
