This Saturday, September 15, the EU Delegation toArmeniawill participate in the environmental clean-up event “Let’s do it!Armenia”. The event is organised by the Young Biologists Association of Armenia, and aims to be the biggest panarmenian volunteer movement, under the slogan “Armeniawithout garbage”.
Twelve volunteer EU Delegation staff and their children are joining the initiative. They aim to clean up the area ofFrik street, near the Delegation, and sort the rubbish collected. The Delegation is happy to contribute modestly to a cleanerArmenia. Protection of the environment is a priority policy for the EU.
Background
The basis of the worldwide movement “Let’s Do It!” was the big cleanup organised in Estonia in 2008, during which more than 50 000 volunteers were able to clean up 10 000 tons of waste from Estonia. This event set an example for other countries: Latvia-more than 60 000 people, Lithuania-more than 110 000 people, Slovenia-more than 246 000 people. Hundreds of authoritative organizations have already joined the campaign and are going to clean their country from waste with the support of millions of volunteers.
