“I Am Surprised That Some People Said That the President’s Speech Was Sobering,” Tigran Urikhanyan Says

September 17,2012 14:53

“I am happy that what we have been saying for a long time has become more than urgent, provable and acceptable for that party, the political majority and its leader,” Tigran Urikhanyan, a Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) MP, said about the consultation convened by President Serzh Sargsyan during a conversation with www.aravot.am. In response to our question whether he thought that the President hadn’t known, had just found out that the Cabinet didn’t work well, one could make a negative assessment, he said that he wasn’t competent to say what the President knew and what he didn’t know, “Perhaps, one should ask the people who are given that right by him. Nonetheless, I am happy that this issue has become more urgent or has become urgent for them at all. I want to express hope that this situation will bring radical changes among the people who perform those functions who are responsible for the positive change in people’s lives expected at least by us. We will eventually take the path of development and will give an impetus to it.”

In response to our question whether he didn’t believe that it was a pre-election show, he said, “I want to believe, I wish to believe that it will really become a first step toward progress. However, I am surprised that some people said that this speech of the President was sobering (he means for Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan – H.J.). I am surprised that what the people said was not sobering, that the concerns and assessments of the PAP political council’s chairman and the PAP parliamentary group were not sobering. Those assessments have constantly been made not only on our political stage and only now have they become sobering, is that it? It is a surprising approach for me.”

In response to our question whether the “bigwigs” mentioned by the President in his statement that “we have to grab the bigwigs by the head” were not them, were not his team, how they could grab the “bigwigs,” in his opinion, Mr. Urikhanyan said, “Regardless of what head one grabs by, what one grabs by, I want our people to live well. And in order that our people live well, the executive bodies carrying out our state policy must be competent, must be responsible, must take be concerned. I really want to believe that this will become the first step toward real changes.”
