Class Truths

September 19,2012 13:39

Some unknown bad person living in California has uploaded a movie on YouTube, which hurts the religious feelings of  Muslims. He did a bad thing – let us condemn such a work

style. But does what that individual has done have anything to do with the US and, in a broader sense, the West. Why must the US government or the Pope bear the responsibility for the crazy actions of that insane person and apologize, even more so, why should the American Ambassador to Libya die because of that? This is probably the divide, which separates the Western and Eastern mentalities. According to the latter, there are no individuals with their personal opinions. There are only national-religious teams who play or at least, must play according to the same rules. According to this approach, humans don’t express themselves personally; everything is regulated by the orders from above. It is quite like the doctrine, which was propagated by the Bolsheviks. The only difference was that instead of the nation and “true” believers, there were “classes,” as a result of which everything belonged to the “class” – ideals, humaneness, truth. The one who ventured to think that all that could be beyond the class was a rotten intellectual at best.

In our social life, individual, personal expressions are rejected by the “top brass.” If an opinion is expressed, the judges of that “top brass” rush to put that idea under a certain heading – government or opposition, the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) or the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), national or antinational. If that idea is not in their interest in some ways, the counterarguments are chosen based on that very “team” mentality.

When a party member tries to deny what another party member says by the argument “you serve your masters,” a natural question always arises – and whom does the one who says that serve, the absolute truth or the age-old wisdom? It is the high time for party members to perceive others and themselves as individuals with their right and wrong ideas and not the manifestation of “class truths.” It will help find the kernel of rationality in the ideas expressed by the most unpleasant person or his work style and debate on that. And leave rebuking and praising to the children of kindergarten and primary school age.

Yesterday Judge Henrik Ter-Adamyan stated that the Civilitas case would be considered without photographing or filming. Not because state secrets will be revealed at that session, but because mass media, in his opinion, cover that trial incorrectly. That judge most probably has his class truths.
