According to the assessment of Petros Makeyan, the leader of the Democratic Motherland Party, the opposition in Armenia doesn’t behave appropriately in the political and social situation. “The opposition mustn’t be engaged in the classic parliamentary activities, but the task must be to support the opposition work in public – marches and rallies. However, as we can see, they have stopped or perhaps, frozen the struggle in public and they have activated
the classic activities in the parliament, which is unacceptable for our party. We have said about that many times in the Congress political council, but the common answer is that the opposition still continues the classic parliamentary work,” Mr. Makeyan complained.
As for Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP Karine Achemyan’s opinion that the opposition had become constructive both with its work and its proposals in the parliament and it could contribute to their efficient joint work, Mr. Makeyan said, “The RPA says so, because it is in their interest. They want to make an impression that everything is normal in the country, the parliament is there, it functions, the Cabinet and the President function, and there is no problem. That definition is not casual – you see, the opposition also works constructively, so everything is good. It is a definition preferable for them. The opposition’s classic parliamentary work style is incomprehensible for me. We have a precedent of cooperation with the government and we saw how the government gained those dividends, which were needed for the international community and then they pushed the opposition – in this case, the Congress – out. If the opposition goes for cooperation with the government that deceived, double-crossed it again, if it repeats its mistake, it will deserve very negative assessments.”
