“The Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Candidate Cannot Be the Opposition Candidate,” Zaruhi Postanjyan Says About Oskanian’s Statement

October 10,2012 16:34

“I can say for sure that at least the PAP with its current work style cannot nominate an opposition candidate as such,” Zaruhi Postanjyan, a Heritage Party MP, expressed such an idea during a conversation with www.aravot.am today, when we asked him to comment on PAP MP Vartan Oskanian’s statement that the PAP would participate in the presidential election with its candidate.

In response to our question what chances Vartan Oskanian would have, if he was the PAP candidate, Ms. Postanjyan said, “I wouldn’t like to make predictions, because it is not my task to comment on the issues regarding the party’s nominations. But I can say that today the opposition cannot be represented by the PAP as a joint candidate or even a separate candidate. They as a party certainly have their separate candidate, but I am convinced that this candidate cannot be the opposition candidate. A party, the members of which are oligarchs, cannot oppose the government. The oligarchy emerged during the rule of today’s government and it is a part of this government. Therefore, there can be no nomination of an opposition candidate in this format.”

In response to our question what voting against the government program, the PAP MP’s support for the ANC activists meant then, he said, “Its attitude certainly must be so. We are in the pre-election period and all the programs, all the actions are first of all for the sake of that, the presidential election. I can clearly say that this political force is restrained by the very fact that there are oligarchs among its members who are a part of the government. Whether we like it or not, it is the reality. Whether we like it or not, it is a fact. No one can deny or reject that fact. Perhaps, the oligarchy wants to participate in this election. There is that group, that group has its ‘niche’ in the government and being in the government, so to say, opposes in the format of an alternative. Their being a part of the oligarchy, their votes, their attitude in the framework of the so-called ‘alternative’ testifies to that very thing.”
