October 22,2012 17:27

“I would say that patients feel quite well, we will send 5-6 people home today,” Vardan Karapetyan, the deputy director of Martuni Medical Center, region of Gegharkunik, said in response to a question of www.aravot.am what news he had about the citizens with suspicions of anthrax brought to the hospital.

A few days ago, 15 people were brought to this medical center. Since the results of laboratory examination are not there, Doctor Karapetyan cannot clearly say whether the citizens are

infected with anthrax or not, but he advises not to panic, “Who has a small wound comes to us in fear, people are in panic.”

There is one patient suspected of being infected with anthrax in Nork Infectious Diseases Hospital. “The patient feels well, it is just that there are suspicions of anthrax,” Eduard Zardaryan, the deputy director of the medical institution, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am. In response to our question whether the patient was from Yerevan or a region, Mr. Zardaryan said, “The Republic of Armenia.”

Today the Ministry of Healthcare published the results of laboratory examination of samples taken from the patients. According to the same source, “Regarding one patient, the diagnosis of anthrax was confirmed, in 9 samples, they found non-pathogenic causative agents of anthrax – the latter is caused by old wounds and treating with antibiotics, using antibiotic creams – and regarding 5 samples the results of laboratory examination were negative. The patients are in a satisfactory condition. They have a positive tendency to get better.

“Laboratory examination of the samples taken from the other suspected patients is under way.”
