Levon Zurabyan, the Armenian National Congress (ANC) coordinator, said in his latest statement that there were two big political forces in the country – the Prosperous Armenia Party and the ANC – that could challenge Serzh Sargsyan. Then he went into detail, “There will be a life-and-death struggle and in the struggle against the regime, this struggle for establishing democracy, the opposition must do everything to be able to find necessary allies, which are interested that this political logic is changed, that there are absolutely different rules of the game in Armenia from now on, that politics and business are separated, that property and business are guaranteed, ensured by the democratic order, competitive environment etc. I think these are the issues, around which the Armenian National Congress and the Prosperous Armenia Party and the society at large can unite.” During a conversation with www.aravot.am, Yervand Bozoyan made some analysis on Mr. Zurabyan’s statements. For example, the political scientist stated, “One thing is clear that there is a political struggle today and if there is no consolidation on the political stage during this political struggle, this government will easily reproduce itself. I want to assert that this government hasn’t achieved anything in both internal and foreign policies in the past few years and as opposed to its predecessors, there is no field, in which it has made progress. If this government reproduces itself, the political stage will empty. This will be the first case, when an absolutely failed government is able to reproduce itself. I understand that this fact doesn’t concern Armenian intellectuals and journalists, since rumors are easier to analyze and comment on. At the end of the day, the society is not interested in what Levon Zurabyan says, what the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) answers. The society is concerned about whether there is an alternative to the policy carried out today. A part of people state silently that there is none and leave, the other part waits.”
Commenting on L. Zurabyan’s statement, the political scientist said, “He stated that everything must be done to create an opposite pole that will be a straightjacket for the current government. I think that he said nothing criminal and it is shameful that there is such a fuss about this person.”
Predicting what would happen, if the current government reproduced itself, Mr. Bozoyan stated that Artashes Geghamyan and Khosrov Harutyunyan would become outstanding representatives of the political stage, political forces like the Free Democrats Party and the Heritage Party, at best, would have high rating.
Going into detail, our interlocutor also stated, “The government will have its micro-world, it will do whatever it likes, there will be political shows, during which there will be a fight in one party… there has been no such thing in the past twenty years. There have been intrigues, rumors, but there has been a political process, it has been the main subject matter. For better or worse, both the government and the opposition have represented different groups in the society. Today’s political elite itself must answer whether it represents the society or not.”
