“How does Sarhat Petrosyan, being an architect, not practicing architecture at all, teach in an institute, moreover at the department of urban development. I ask a question – what right does he have, what fountain has he authored to speak of architecture?” architect Levon Igityan said during a conversation with www.aravot.am. He didn’t wish to talk about the statements about S. Petrosyan made on one of TV shows on the Kentron TV channel, which S. Petrosyan had assessed as absolutely false and gave time to Igityan till November to deny them, “Am I supposed to say that I was wrong? I can claim what I said again.”
In Mr. Igityan’s words, Sarhat’s criticism of the chief architect is a personal opinion and has prehistory. According to him, many years ago, when N. Sargsyan was a dean at the Architectural University, also a member of the European Association for Architectural Education and sent 8 best students of the university, among whom he didn’t include Sarhat, although he wanted it very much, to a contest of young architects in France, “Sarhat wanted desperately to be among those 8, Narek didn’t include him, because he had to take the best of them. Our guys went and won. At that time, Sarhat cried from the rooftops that since he was not taken, he had to do harm to him all of his life, which he does.” Mr. Igityan is surprised at the fact that considering himself an architect, Sarhat doesn’t put forward any designs, “Narek Sargsyan, the chief architect, invited young architects two years ago and said that if ‘you have designs regarding the city, the doors are open, bring and we will discuss.’ Sarhat was among them, why hasn’t he done that?”
Mr. Igityan thinks that Sarhat’s achievements are conditional also on the fact that he is Public Council Chairman Vazgen Sargsyan’s son-in-law, “Perhaps, that is the reason why the Public Council discusses government programs regarding the city from time to time on Sarhat’s initiative.”
