The officers of the struggle against organized crime department of the police have been running a check at the timber enterprises and woods of the region of Tavush for a few days already. The check started from the forestry of Ijevan, then continued in the forestry of Sevkari and Noyemberyan.
According to our sources, there is one arrestee. He is Samvel Stepanyan, a resident of thevillageofGandzakar, district of Ijevan, who has a timber enterprise in the backyard of his house. He is kept in the Dilijan police station now.
There were speculations that Rafik Ohanyan, the headman of the Acharkut village, was also arrested. However, the law-enforcers clarified for us that he was not arrested, the timber enterprise, in which officers of the struggle against organized crime department revealed financial violations, was not registered in the village headman’s name, but in his son’s name. We were informed by the Tavush regional department of the State Nature Protection Service that the regional department of the Nature Protection Service would make reports on the results of the check run by Department 6 in 14 timber enterprises. Let us add that roughly a month ago, national security officers conducted checks on the territory of the Noyemberyan forestry and revealed illegal deforestation. According to our information, that was the reason why two chief foresters and a few foresters were fired.
