In response to a question of www.aravot.am who, according to the RPA, was behind the statement of the PAP, since there was an implication in the statement made by the party’s spokesperson, Sharmazanov himself had commented that he had said everything quite clearly and transparently, Mkrtich Minasyan, an RPA MP, said, “If the question is put that way, I don’t have an answer to that. I don’t know who is behind it.”
Instead, our interlocutor knew quite well what he would say on the subject, “It is not a novelty in the Armenian political life. Those proposals were made as early as 10-15 years ago, the ARF made them, recently the Heritage Party has made them etc. It is a political viewpoint that is present in some countries, exists, operates and seems to justify itself. But the presidential system is used in the majority of countries. This is an issue of approach, consideration, discussion, but the model we have is more efficient for our country’s political culture, political perceptions and government. You have probably forgotten that as recently as three days ago they cursed the National Assembly for its committed and not committed sins. Now, shall we let that National Assembly, the National Assembly you didn’t like, govern the country?”
The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP thinks that the current balanced order was more efficient than the one that has been proposed.
We inquired whether he was not concerned that after the PAP, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) had refreshed its statement taking into account that both forces were associated with second president Robert Kocharyan, the RPA MP said, “The ARF does the right thing that it refreshes. And I don’t want to talk about the shadows of presidents. Time will tell. If that shadow is there, it will necessarily materialize one day.”
