The series of the PAP consultations has started. Meetings between the PAP and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), the PAP and the Armenian National Congress (ANC), the PAP and the Heritage Party have taken place. The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has also received an official invitation from the PAP to meet and discuss particularly the proposals made by the PAP, which are about 100-percent proportional representation and switching to the parliamentary system of government. Despite the official invitation, Galust Sahakyan, the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group leader, stated during a conversation with www.galatv.am, “There are no new grounds that we could make a subject matter.” As for what grounds he was talking about and whether the RPA agreed with the opinion that there was an atmosphere of panic in the party because of the possible union of the other political parties, www.aravot.am tried to find out during a conversation with Galust Sahakyan, the leader of the RPA parliamentary group.
Mr. Sahakyan went into detail, “Those issues have been raised for many years, and the Republican Party has responded to the issues integrally and separately. As for now, there are no grounds in the proposals; when there are new grounds, we will discuss. We have analyzed those grounds for many years, we have given our assessment. Years have passed, but there has been no change in the grounds. That is why we don’t see any reason to discuss. Particularly given the fact that 4 parties are competing for the copyright of that statement. I think that it would be better, if the opposition camp that gives a stronger response had its own formats of discussion. Otherwise, the Republican Party must not meet all the parties one by one. We are busy with our job, our congress, the upcoming election, conducting it well is logically connected with us and for the others, it is a process that makes them more active.”
As for the speculations that the RPA was panicking, Mr. Sahakyan said the following, “The Courageous Nazar would do that too – he would always give an imitation that everyone was afraid of him and ran away from him. I want parties not to find themselves in that condition. We said clearly and honestly at the time that changing the form of government would not solve any problem. We are for reforms in different fields. There are brilliant presidential countries, which are serious entities in the world both democratically and economically. Changing models will not change anything substantially. Forces had better cooperate and carry out reforms in different fields, in which we are engaged today.”
