9th Kin International Movie Festival will be held on December 3-7. Marian Ohanyan, the director of the movie festival, stated during a conversation with www.aravot.am that the festival aimed at rethinking the role of woman in society and raise women’s problems through movies: “The festival is unique both in Armenia and in the region. In the past when I would prepare movies about women’s problems, I would hear that there were more important subjects. That was the reason why I decided to organize a festival, in order that we are able to show movies.”
In Ohanyan’s words, “Women’s rights are violated in Armenia more often than those of men. Generally, a tradition has been established in human history, according to which men violate
women’s rights. We are raising that problem today, because woman’s and man’s roles in society are being rethought.”
The director also said that the festival’s program included Japanese Short Shorts Film Festival and the selection of Asean International Film Festival: “Armenian Swedish famous documentary film director Suzanne Khardalian’s movies have been included in the retrospective section of the program. Besides, a round-table discussion will be held on December 7 on the subject Female Director in the Modern World.”
Mariam Ohanyan added that Kin Festival was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, the French Embassy and the British Council.
