Answering our question whether it was possible that Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leader Gagik Tsarukyan would announce his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election, political scientist Yervand Bozoyan stated during a conversation with www.aravot.am a few days ago: “Let us wait ten days, and everything will be clear. But the scenario that Gagik Tsarukyan will be nominated, and the Armenian National Congress (ANC) will endorse his candidacy is quite probable.”
More than ten days have passed since that interview, but the decision of the PAP is still delayed. www.aravot.am inquired of Mr. Bozoyan why the PAP was delaying the decision and increasing the internal political tension by that. The political scientist replied: “I think that the decision will be made in the next few days. I think that the reason for delaying is
that consultations between the PAP, the ANC and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) are under way, and an attempt is made to come to an agreement.”

In response to our question whether G. Tsarukyan’s visit to Brussels, or the issue of getting the US go-ahead played any role here, Mr. Bozoyan said: “It is not a matter of orientation, those are just visits. Such visits are common, Barroso came to Armenia too. Certainly, all that is related to the election campaign, but saying that they get an approval would be a bit rude, since the Republic of Armenia is a sovereign state, and no politician gets such an approval. It is offensive for both the government and the opposition.”
We inquired of Y. Bozoyan whether it was possible that the ARF, the ANC and the PAP will nominate a joint candidate. He replied: “I don’t rule out anything.”
