One Could Have Preserved It, if There Had Been Unity, a Minister Says About “Ejecting” the Armenian Museum in France

December 10,2012 14:51

www.aravot.am inquired of Hranush Hakobyan, the Minister of Diaspora, what she thought about “ejecting” the Armenian Museum in France. Ms. Hakobyan said: “The closure of any Armenian institution is pitiful. France has such strong potential that if they had united, they would have been able to solve that issue. I am really sorry…. Certainly, they blame the crisis for everything, but there are values that can be preserved.”

Let us remind that Frederic Fringian, the director of the Armenian Museum in France, informed that the museum that had existed for 60 years and whose collection included unique items of the Armenian cultural heritage was ejected. As early as last July, the museum received a letter from the Directorate General for Cultural Values that the collection should be moved due to the construction work in the building. The director assured that it was a planned ejection. “The Armenian Year in France was a big cultural event bearing the name ‘Armenia, my friend.’ Doesn’t it exist anymore? The state’s word should be obligatory, even binding,” Fringian said in confusion in an interview given to Nouvelles d’Arménie.
