“What Happened to Mher Can Happen to Any of Us,” Vahagn Khachatryan Says

December 21,2012 20:38

“What comment can one make; in any case, it is an unacceptable thing,” Vahagn Khachatryan, a member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), said during a conversation with www.aravot.am today when asked about the incident between Mher Sedrakyan, a Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP, and journalist Mher Arshakyan.

Vahagn Khachatryan expressed pity that they were compelled to work in such a parliament as today’s, “I am sorry that such brutal force is used against journalists. Even one of their commentators said that it was nothing compared to what had happened 5-10 years ago. Generally, that comparison is not appropriate either. What does it mean what happened 5-10 years ago was worse? What happens today is unacceptable. It is our reality today. I am sorry for what happened to Mher, but it can happen to any of us at any moment; it can happen in the National Assembly, where we are not protected, let alone in the street.”

Vahagn Khachatryan said with regard to journalists’ collecting signatures that he was with them in his heart.
