“I don’t want to comment on Mr. Ter-Petrossian’s speech,” Artak Zeynalyan, a member of the Republic Party political council, said in response to a question of www.aravot.am whom and what the ANC leader, Levon Ter-Petrossian, wanted to say in his speech at the Pan-Armenian National Movement (PANM) congress, in his opinion, by talking about those who divided the society into pro-Westerners and Russophiles.
Let us remind that Aram Sargsyan, the leader of the Republic Party, criticized the pro-Russian policy of the Armenian government in his speech from the same stage of the same hall on Friday, “…this government, attaching importance to Armenia’s independence and sovereignty, signs more and more agreements within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), by which the presence of other country’s forces in our own territory is forbidden without the permission of the CSTO. Attaching importance to strengthening and enhancing cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, they extend the presence of the Russian military bases for 49 years. They talk about economic and energy independence, at the same time, they implement the Property for Debt Agreement and sell the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline to Russia.”
Artak Zeynalyan also refrained from commenting on Ter-Petrossian’s call for waiting for a few more days to find out about his decision on participating in the presidential election. He just said: “I think that he will not be nominated; that is my impression.”

By the way, at the congress that took place today, the Freedom Party made a unilateral decision to announce party leader Hrant Bagratyan’s candidacy for the upcoming presidential election. We inquired of Mr. Zeynalyan whether consolidation of liberal forces around the former Prime Minister was possible. Our interlocutor said that they would express their opinion also on that issue only after the nominations.
