Armine Narinyan, journalist from Karabagh has circulated a statement that the fish in Sarsang reservoir died (Artsakh). She assumed that Base Metals Company should be blamed (Valles Group Company), which conceded leak of cyanides from the gold extracting plant in Drmbon. The statement says that in May 2012 the representatives of ARFD parliamentary faction of National Assembly of NKR made an enquiry in regard with the cyanic tailing dump in Drmbon…The reply to the parliamentary enquiry was dispatched from the Ministry of Economic Development of NKR with a reference to Base Metals Company, “…the plant project has undergone all the stages of environmental, construction expertise and technical safety as prescribed by law…Cyanides are packed in airtight packages and any leak is excluded…The whole staff dealing with cyanides has special training…” etc.
The activists’ statement also presents conversations with locals, which have applied to parliamentarians for help. The residents don’t mention their names, refuse to talk in front of the cameras, but they insist that the fish had died and the ecology in the area had deteriorated.
Reminder: Vallex Company represented by Base Metals develops absolute majority of mines in Artsakh. The first was Drmbon mine. As Base Metals Director Arthur Mkrtchyan stated several times, the mines is already exhausted and will be closed in 2015 in perspective. The company has already found a substitute and new it’s preparing to develop Tsaghkashen mine. The catching example of intensive economy, which is propagated by the Armenian authorities, is already practiced by the NHR government.
