If You Are Insulted, You Should Think About Suing, Edik Minasyan Says

January 10,2013 16:42

Edik Minasyan, the dean of the Faculty of History, Yerevan State University, stated during a conversation with www.aravot.am today that the circulated recording according to which he had forbidden students and professors to participate in rallies, threatening to expel from the university was a fake.

In response to our question whether a recording could be faked, Mr. Minasyan said that the recording might be “collected” from fragments of discussions on different subjects. “As if I said that there was no such thing as a constitutional right, whereas I couldn’t have said something like that, on the contrary, I have always told students that it was their constitutional right to go wherever they wanted after classes. I personally participated in the Artsakh Movement, and it is very insulting for me today that the facts are distorted. I think all that is provocation, and I don’t know what all that aims at, particularly given the fact that I am not the person who should be a special target. Probably they want to achieve some goals through me in this case. Maybe they carry out an instruction,” the dean stated during a conversation with www.aravot.am.

He added that he didn’t want “to commit a sin” and couldn’t mention a specific name, but he drew the following conclusion from the developments of the past one-two months: “Some people carry out an instruction, although I don’t have any facts. 5 years have passed since 2008; what 5-year-old fact could they put forward, particularly given the fact that somewhere it is mentioned that in 2008, the dean…, somewhere else I am called the head of a department, somewhere they write ‘during the election,’ somewhere else ‘after the election,’ whereas: a. I wasn’t even in town at the time; b. in 2008, I wasn’t the dean, I was elected in February 2009….”

In response to our question whether he meant that he had become a scapegoat in a bigger game, Edik Minasyan said: “Yes, yes…, and it is unfortunate. People deliberately do this, even personally insulting, which makes me angry. And naturally, if you are insulted, you should even think of suing. They don’t let the work be as usual; everything is tense.”
