Urikhanyan Denies That the “Boy Keeping Lions” Has Been Terrified

January 16,2013 17:46

“Who said that? Who is it? I cannot recall such a man, frankly speaking. Is it important to comment on what an unremembered person said?” Tigran Urikhanyan, the secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), said when asked to comment on the analysis of Hmayak Hovhannisyan, the President of the Union of Political Scientists, on why the “boy keeping lions who would always surprise everyone with his biceps shut up.” According to Hmayak Hovhannisyan, Gagik Tsarukyan was frightened, terrified by Serzh Sargsyan.

According to Tigran Urikhanyan, “I don’t know who terrified whom, what boys.”

Nonetheless, we inquired whether Serzh Sargsyan, his pressure on Gagik Tsarukyan had played a role in Gagik Tsarukyan’s not announcing his candidacy, choosing the passive boycott – not announcing one’s candidacy and not endorsing anyone – Tigran Urikhanyan replied: “There is no force either in society or among political organizations, either inside or outside that can make the PAP or the PAP leader not take steps that accord with his own conviction or the people’s trust, expectations, if those steps are planned, or take steps that are not planned. The only stimulating factor is the responsibility we have taken on.”

As for what the PAP electorate would do now, Tigran Urikhanyan said that they had given an answer to that in their decision. “The PAP will not endorse anyone.” In response to our question whether the electorate should stay at home, not participate in the election, Tigran Urikhanyan said that there was no instruction regarding that. “In the commissions, in accordance with the law, morality and logic, generally, in all allowed formats, our participation in the electoral processes will be to follow the quality of the election, not having political interest in this election.”
