Robert Harutyunyan, a 38-year-old resident of the village of Itsakar, region of Tavush, and Samvel Grigoryan, a 34-year-old resident of the village of Paravakar, were prosecuted for having sexual relations with T.G., a resident of the village of Itsakar born in November 1996, in the period from December 2011 through February 2012. Both men are married: R. Harutyunyan is unemployed, and S. Grigoryan is a contract serviceman. S. Grigoryan didn’t have an attorney; R. Harutyunyan had one. R. Harutyunyan pled not guilty, and S. Grigoryan pled partially guilty. The charges against the accused were laid in accordance with Article 141 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia – having sexual intercourse with a person under 16 years of age – that article provides for a fine varying from 100- to 250-times the minimum wage or imprisonment for not more than two years. They have been
released on their own recognizance. Judge Zoya Zakinyan decided that the court session would be closed. On December 17, the trial court of the region of Tavush decided to fine Samvel Grigoryan and Robert Harutyunyan 150 thousand drams each. While making a decision, the court took into account that Samvel Grigoryan had 5 and Robert Harutyunyan 2 children, they hadn’t been condemned before and had been given positive testimonials.
