During a conversation with www.aravot.am, Aram Harutyunyan, the leader of the National Accord Party, said that he stuck to his decision to go on a hunger strike outside the CEC at 5 o’clock tomorrow, February 7, and withdraw his candidacy at 5 o’clock the next day.
As for why he had decided on 5 o’clock, Aram Harutyunyan explained: “I would always get 5s at school; that is why I have decided on that time. I would get not only 5s, I got a medal too and a diploma with honors in the university, and I was a PhD student in the Lomonosov University….”
As for what Harutyunyan would do after the withdrawal of his candidacy, the candidate said: “I will be engaged in the same propaganda. Since I am convinced that people on Serzh Sargsyan’s ballot will start to stammer; let’s wait for a short while, then a new process will start in Armenia.” In response to a question whether it was realistic what he said that if Serzh Sargsyan withdrew his candidacy, he would go down in history as a good president, he said: “If he wants to feel secure when he gets old, the best step for him will be to become a guarantor of fair elections; he will go down in history as such. I would like it if people googled “Serzh Sargsyan” in a hundred years, and the results were not the events of March 1, Harsnakar, Ramil Safarov etc. I would like it if the results were good things, and those good things will be, only if he becomes a guarantor of fair elections. And he will not have another chance to carry out such an important mission.”
In response to an observation that the other candidates hadn’t responded to his appeal to jointly withdraw candidacies, Harutyunyan said: “It is their problem; they will talk after February 18, you will see what they will say. They will start to give illogical explanations or switch off their phones. I mean this very thing when I say they will start to stammer.”
