Relatives of the March 1 victims have filed a lawsuit in court, by which they challenge the order of the Minister of Education and Science to present the Armenian History textbook for universities to the public and to make students study that book. www.aravot.am inquired during a conversation with Alla Hovhannisyan, the mother of Tigran Khachatryan who had died on March 1, what they demanded. She replied: “We ask of the court not to include that book in the list of textbooks. Armen Ashotyan, the Minister of Education and Science, gave an illegal order. We think that the minister who accepted that book as a textbook didn’t have a right to do that. It is another matter whether they had a right to write a book or not, but at this very moment, we need the court to find the order of the Minister of Education and Science to make the book a textbook void. Firstly, they didn’t
have a right to write that book during the preliminary investigation. And when we tell the minister about that, it turns out that he doesn’t even know what is written there.”
We inquired of Vahe Baveyan, the head of the legal department, Ministry of Education and Science, whether they thought the lawsuit was grounded, and what measures the ministry would take. He informed in this regard: “Since the case is being considered by court, we cannot give explanations. The court will consider the case and will give explanations. The ministry participates in the legal process.”
