While the investigation into the assassination attempt on Paruyr Hayrikyan is progressing, there are various rumors about the persons who have been arrested for that crime. For example, it came out that Vardan Sedrakyan, a candidate for president who is an expert in epic poems, knows the two persons, Samvel Harutyunyan and Khachatur Poghosyan, suspected of having attempted to assassinate Hayrikyan. He confirmed that S. Harutyunyan was his neighbor, and those two people had worked together in his dacha. Also, news was spread that S. Harutyunyan was a cousin of Karen Babayan’s, aka the Sheriff, the chief security officer of Zvartnots Airport. www.aravot.am tried to find out whether there were political overtones in all this during a conversation with political technologists and political scientists.
Political technologist Karen Kocharyan doesn’t treat all this seriously, since that information hasn’t been officially confirmed. He didn’t wish to engage in speculations and said: “No one has officially confirmed any such connection. And if it hasn’t been confirmed officially, what does it mean they connect? That scandal was made up by journalists. Firstly, it is wrong to see any political overtones, as far as the expert in epic poems is concerned. Karen Babayan stated that he had seen that man twenty years ago. He was a police officer; he is not a politician so that they could politicize; nor is he a high-ranking police officer. Today he is not really with the police. It is not right to see anything political here. I don’t doubt that the assassination attempt was political, but the fact that the suspects are connected with the expert in epic poems or the Sheriff; I think it is not right to see anything political here today. The investigation is in progress; after it, some things will be clear. However, what should we speculate now for? As they say, what do you speculate for…?”
Political scientist Yervand Bozoyan thinks what has been revealed about the suspects in the case of the assassination attempt on Hayrikyan is funny and is bewildered why, for example, the expert in epic poems would be interested in an assassination attempt on Hayrikyan. The political scientist doesn’t believe all this and states: “In a country, where the president can tamper with the results of the election as he pleases, he can tamper with the testimony given during the preliminary investigation as he pleases, he can tamper with the economic indexes as he pleases, in a country, where the government controls all fields of activity, people don’t believe neither the investigation bodies, nor the legal system. Why should people believe a system, where everything depends on one person’s will and decision?”
