The head of the Martuni Women’s Community Council NGO, asks why they nominate themselves, if they don’t have resources
285 observers of the Martuni Women’s Community Council NGO are observing today’s presidential election. Aravot asked Anahit Gevorgyan, the head of the Martuni Women’s Community Council NGO, to present the preliminary picture of the election. “The election has made a bad impression on me, because none of the candidates for president have poll-watchers. If they don’t have resources, why do they nominate themselves? For example, it was very lively during the National Assembly election, it was much clearer; people were vigilant about the electoral process. Everything is in their hands…. A few people, members of the commission, a few observers…,” Anahit Gevorgyan stated. She also added that they had told to the observers of their organization not to interfere, just record facts. “There is rather visible passiveness
today. There weren’t many people or crowds gathered in the polling stations we entered, as during the previous election. As a civilized election, this one differs from the previous one; there are no crowds, there are no people 50 meters from the electoral district, as we could notice during the previous election. Police officers are where they should be. There is nothing showy. If the international observers were here, they would see that everything is calm and placid. It is passiveness; people don’t go to vote, but ballot boxes are full already,” Anahit Gevorgyan, the head of the Martuni Women’s Community Council NGO, stated.
