What the Heritage Party leader’s astuteness should prompt him to do, according to a Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP
“I made an appeal yesterday that he should become the first president, have a spine and accept the people’s victory. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to do that so far. It is not too late, tomorrow at 5 p.m. we meet here at a national rally, and meanwhile I offer Serzh Sargsyan to have a public or private meeting with me and discuss the handing over of power to the people,” Raffi Hovhannisyan who had come second in the presidential election stated in Freedom Square today. www.aravot.am inquired of
Margarit Yesayan, an RPA MP, whether the ruling Republican Party and President Serzh Sargsyan was ready to listen to Raffi Hovhannisyan’s appeal. “I am not entitled to answer your question on behalf of the president of the country and the RPA, but, as an MP, I will say that we actually agree with Mr. Hovhannisyan. Yes, the people won in the presidential election, and that victory was registered by the data and facts that the Central Election Commission (CEC) made public based on preliminary results. I congratulate the people on the successful presidential election and hope that Mr. Hovhannisyan’s political astuteness will prompt him to take absolutely different steps. And I think it will be fair, if he congratulates the victorious president,” Margarit Yesayan said. In response to an observation that Raffi Hovhannisyan’s perceptions substantially differed from those of the RPA, Ms. Yesayan said: “One should consider the logic of perceptions of victories and defeats in national elections from one perspective. Avowedly, a fair election in line with democratic norms has taken place. And in this situation, the people of the given country win. In this case, the Armenian people. And the American press, as well as the Russian press, local and foreign analysts, and organizations carrying out monitoring missions assert that this election was such. I think that one should just reconcile himself to the reality we have today.”
