“Mime, Something Lyrical,” About S. Sargsyan’s Letter of Response to S. Tankian

February 27,2013 12:45

President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and rock singer Serj Tankian have been in active correspondence in recent days. Serj Tankian wrote an open letter to the President of the Republic of Armenia, which was followed by S. Sargsyan’s response. As it is known, S. Tankian is actively involved in environmental movements. That is why www.aravot.am inquired of environmentalists whether this correspondence would benefit the protection of the environment or the other way around. Environmentalist Artur Grigoryan said: “I don’t see either benefit or harm, since the correspondence is related to the election. Therefore, the content of the correspondence doesn’t have anything to do with the protection of the environment. As for S. Sargsyan’s response, it was an absolute mime. There are Latin quotes from Thomas Hobbes in the letter of response. When a man doesn’t know the name of

Thomas Hobbes, he cannot make Latin quotes from him. It was just mocked among environmentalists. Those who wrote his response were so stupid that S. Sargsyan has found himself in an awkward position. And Serj Tankian’s letter could have included more clear definitions, but it is his business; he has his mentality.” Environmentalist Lilit Gevorgyan, in her turn, noted: “Certainly, it is good to know that Tankian pays attention to the events that go on. One should not expect anything from Tankian or someone else, but from oneself. At this moment, the situation depends on every citizen. And S. Sargsyan’s response was something lyrical without answering any question raised by Serj. Even Serj stated that actually his questions hadn’t been answered.”
