A consultation, in which representatives of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), the Heritage Party, and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) participated and the agenda of which included 3 issues – holding a snap parliamentary election within one year, switching to 100% proportional representation within two years, and increasing the supervisory leverage of the opposition – took place in the office of Hovik Abrahamyan, the
Speaker of the National Assembly, today. Ruben Hakobyan, the leader of the Heritage Party parliamentary group, told the reporter of www.news.am that they hadn’t reached a final agreement, since there were some contentious issues, therefore, the consultations would continue. Aravot asked Elinar Vardanyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) parliamentary group, whether such discussions could yield results and contribute to easing the tense post-election atmosphere in the country. “I have no idea at what level the negotiations are held. We raised the issue of switching to proportional representation ourselves long ago and we are sure that changes should be made not just given the current situation, but generally we should switch to proportional representation. As to what impact those three issues proposed by the opposition can have, I cannot make any assessments. Moreover, I have no idea whether those issues were discussed during that consultation.” Raffi Hovhannisyan stated at the rally, which has just finished, that as of tomorrow, the arrival of spring would lead Armenia to victory and the political agenda would not be separate, political movements would jointly draw up the political agenda in the very square. Aravot asked Elinar Vardanyan, a PAP MP, whether it was possible that tomorrow the PAP representatives would attend Raffi Hovhannisyan’s rally. “That issue hasn’t been discussed in our party. I don’t have any answer to that question at the moment,” PAP MP Elinar Vardanyan replied.
