Sukias Avetisyan thinks that life should be dear to Raffi Hovhannisyan in the first place
Today www.aravot.am inquired of Sukias Avetisyan, an RPA MP, what value a human-being, a citizen of the Republic of Armenia had for the RPA and to what extent they were concerned about his health. He replied: “I think that not only for the Republican Party, but
in any civilized country, the citizen is the highest value.” In response to our observation that in civilized countries, when a man went on a hunger strike, the authorities visited him, tried to understand his problem, solve it, negotiated with him, Sukias Avetisyan said: “Excuse me, but Raffi Hovhannisyan went on a hunger strike only yesterday. His teammates themselves say that they were also surprised, right? Now why do we try to beat the gun? Someone may invite him; they may try to meet with him. This will be discussed and decided. We haven’t discussed it yet. Yesterday evening he went on a hunger strike, and you expect us to have made a decision already. It will be discussed; we will discuss what to do. Perhaps there may be representatives of the government who will meet with him, see what is what; it is an ordinary process.” In response to our question what he thought of Raffi Hovhannisyan’s statements that “Serzh Sargsyan will swear in only over my dead body,” Sukias Avetisyan said: “I don’t think it is right, because I have always thought of Raffi Hovhannisyan as an educated man, and I think that the Republic of Armenia will need him. I think he can benefit this country, these people with his worldview, and I think that one shouldn’t make such radical statements, because life is dear to everyone. In any case, I think that it is wrong. I will think of it as wrong. No matter how much attention the international community and our public pay to that, I think that life should be dear to Raffi Hovhannisyan in the first place, particularly given the fact that he still wants to improve civil society in Armenia, improve the people’s condition; I think he will not solve that problem by self-immolation.”
