“It Is Too Late for Serzh Sargsyan to Change,” Styopa Safaryan Says

March 26,2013 10:41

www.aravot.am inquired of Styopa Safaryan, the secretary general of the Heritage Party, whether saying that Serzh Sargsyan had started to change by 180 degrees didn’t remind of the messages sent by the Congress to the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), when they had started to say that there were no oligarchs in the PAP, the PAP’s involvement in the events of March 1 was in question etc. Styopa Safaryan replied: “It is too late for Serzh Sargsyan to change. Serzh Sargsyan has changed his position of March 18 by 180 degrees. Those are different things. On March 18, he totally rejected negotiations, now – it doesn’t matter in what way he says – he says: ‘Raffi, since I told you, you should write’ etc., but on March 18, he would say: ‘No conversation,’ now he says: ‘Conversation.’ It is a change.” As for what caused this change, according to Styopa Safaryan, they had realized that “he cannot continue like this, having the people here.” In response to our observation that the people had been here on March 18 and before that too, Styopa Safaryan said: “You know what, they don’t come to their senses at any moment. In the period from now till April 9, they will sense more than ever before that their expectations that this tide will die out, the people will get disappointed doesn’t have prospects; they had better not wait.” In response to our question whether there would be real solutions, given the fact that Serzh Sargsyan had already had his say regarding dissolution of the parliament, Styopa Safaryan said: “There are people in the parliament who are businessmen, and the president talked about one thing that, excuse me, is a report of a crime. To say: ‘I know that they are oligarchs, but their papers are falsified or are clear,’ is a report of a crime. So the president himself said that this parliament is liable to dissolution. Suppose one is absent from work, he brings a certificate from the doctor, everyone says that they know that he hasn’t been ill, but he is ill on paper.” In response to our observation that they themselves had talked about Serzh Sargsyan’s being a part of the criminal oligarchic pyramid, being on the top of the pyramid and our question what results destroying that pyramid at the bottom and leaving it intact at the top would yield, Styopa Safaryan assured that their goal was not to destroy anything, but to form the people’s government. “We talk about dissolution of the parliament, and it is the very top of the pyramid. Serzh Sargsyan himself confessed on one occasion that he was also a prisoner in their hands. Well now, if he is a prisoner, let him get rid of it himself, and if he is a part of it, let him leave, along with it.”
