An Armenian National Congress (ANC) Activist Talks About Prisoners of Conscience and the City Council Election (Video)

April 05,2013 10:48

Artak Karapetyan, an ANC activist, is convinced that if the Supreme Court has accepted the appeal in the case of the ANC activists, then it has found violations in the legal proceedings. “It means that they have to revise. So they have found violations, if they have accepted the appeal. The Supreme Court’s decision is related to the political process. If the political processes are peaceful these days, the authorities should try to stall for time, until there is something specific – good or bad – so that they can use both the bad thing and the good thing in their political interests. I don’t have any expectations now,” Artak Karapetyan, an ANC activist, said to www.aravot.am. Today the traditional Friday protest in support of the convicted ANC activists took place outside the Attorney General’s Office.

During the protest, Areg Gevorgyan, an ANC activist said that he was convinced that they would struggle for the activists’ release and would overcome all obstacles. “However, an important event awaits us in the next few days, which can really make changes both in the case of the youths and generally in terms of reestablishing the rule of law and constitutional order in Armenia. That event is the upcoming city council election, which can really change the situation in Armenia. I am convinced that if the concerned citizens and political forces of Armenia make as much effort as they can, Yerevan can really be returned to the people. In this sense, we can create such a situation in Armenia that will allow us not only to make them release the youths, but to rule out any prisoners of conscience and illegal actions in Armenia.”
