The Citizen Who Attempted to Stuff a Ballot Box for the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Was Arrested and Laid Charges Against

May 07,2013 11:39

An investigation has been launched into the attempt of ballot box stuffing in polling place no. 8/23 on May 5. Let us remind that one of voters attempted to put three ballots into the ballot box at the same time, which was prevented by a representative of the Armenian National Congress (ANC). Today when the commission of electoral district no. 8 was carrying out a vote recount in the polling places of their electoral district, Aram Ayvazyan (in the photo), chief investigator of the Malatya-Sebastia administrative district, came to confiscate the record book of polling place no. 8/23.

In the interests of the preliminary investigation, he declined to tell us the case details. The electoral district commission chairman, Oleg Grigoryan, also described the incident as an attempt of double-voting. In response to our question whether it was a case of double-voting or ballot box stuffing, he explained: “I haven’t familiarized myself with the records…, it is ballot box stuffing, the person is arrested…, I reckon he tried to vote on behalf of his family members.” In response to a question how the voter had obtained three ballots, he said:

“Someone gave that ballot or took it.” By the way, although the commission chairman didn’t wish to tell us for what party the votes were cast, one of commission members said that it was the RPA.
